Known in the metals industry as the publisher of Preston Pipe & Tube Report, the company does extensive market research related to the supply, demand, and shipments of tube and pipe products.
Founded in 1982 by Douglas Preston Yadon, its initial mission was to track shipments and consumption of steel pipe & tube. Over the years, Preston evolved into the premier pipe and tube industry resource for data, statistics and analysis.
In 2007, Preston was acquired by Rick Preckel and Paul Vivian, two experienced pipe and tube professionals from the manufacturing and distribution sectors of the pipe and tube industry. Since that time, Preston’s capabilities have expanded to include consulting services in the areas of business planning, marketing, acquisitions and divestitures, economic research, and other areas. The principals organize an annual conference on OCTG, speak at other professional conferences and seminars, and can provide custom-designed reports and presentations.

Some sectors of the economy are hot and some are not. Many industries are doing well, the unemployment rate is improving, and housing sales activity from November 2020 to November 2021 increased 25%. However, several other indicators are cause for concern about the recovery. Improvements are likely to follow two developments in late December: vaccine approval and the federal spending plan.
