Atlas Tube donates materials to help rebuild Haiti trade school following earthquake

Atlas Tube, Chicago, a division of JMC Steel Group, has donated 16 tons of steel hollow structural sections (HSS) to help rebuild L'École Lakay, a trade school located in Haiti that was severely damaged in the 2010 earthquake.

The town of Le Soleil, Haiti, was devastated by the earthquake; the school was left in an uninhabitable condition and forced to close. It is getting a second chance now with help from the Canadian Institute of Steel (CISC) and Atlas Tube. The CISC is part of an initiative that is raising funds and resources to rebuild the school tailored to the construction trades.

The new school will be constructed primarily from steel and will feature 16 classrooms, workshops, washrooms, offices, storage areas, covered walkways, and a shaded outdoor space. When reopened, the school expects to accommodate 200 students.
