Plymouth Tube appoints president/CEO

Warrenville, Ill.-based Plymouth Tube Co., a manufacturer of steel tubing and steel and titanium extruded shapes, has named Mark Baker its new president and CEO. Baker is the first nonfamily member to hold that position since the company’s founding in 1924.

Baker joins the company as Donald Van Pelt Jr., who has served as president and CEO since 1996 and chairman of the board since 2013, prepares to retire. Van Pelt retains his role as chairman of the board.

Baker previously worked at Tempel Steel as president and CEO and at Steelcase Inc. in a variety of commercial and operational roles, including global operations officer.

Plymouth Tube—in its fifth generation of family ownership, with family members active in the company either through employment or board positions—has announced that it is committed to remaining a private, family-owned business.
