Stainless steel electrodes designed for elevated travel speed butt, lap, fillet welds

Select-Arc Inc. has introduced two gas-shielded metal-cored, stainless steel electrodes designed for making butt, lap, and fillet welds at elevated travel speeds. The electrodes offer a maximum carbon content of 0.03 percent, to minimize carbide precipitation and increase resistance to intergranular corrosion. They feature a smooth, spray-arc transfer and produce little or no slag covering and virtually no spatter, according to the manufacturer. The higher silicon levels in each are intended to improve bead wetting.
SelectAlloy 308LSi-C provides a nominal composition of 21 percent chromium, 10 percent nickel, and 0.8 percent silicon. It is used to weld types 301, 302, 304L, 308, and 308L stainless steel. Applications include welded components for the chemical, paper, textile, and pharmaceutical industries, as well as food service equipment.
SelectAlloy 309LSi-C provides a nominal composition of 24 percent chromium, 13 percent nickel, and 0.8 percent silicon. It welds type 309 stainless steel and can be used to join carbon and low-alloy steels to austenitic stainless steels. Applications include refinery and chemical processing equipment, as well as furnace and auto exhaust parts.
