Stainless steel electrodes suitable for surfacing, welding over gaps

Select-Arc Inc. has introduced two self-shielded, flux-cored stainless steel electrodes designed to weld stainless steels and for the cladding of carbon steels. The lower penetration of the wires makes them suitable for surfacing and for welding over gaps.

SelectAlloy 308LTO-3 contains a nominal weld metal composition of 21 percent chromium and 10 percent nickel with a maximum carbon content of 0.03 percent. The electrode's low carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation and makes the weld metal more resistant to intergranular corrosion. It may be used to weld Types 301, 302, 304L, 308, and 308L stainless steel in addition to carbon steel cladding.

SelectAlloy 309LTO-3 has a nominal weld metal composition of 24 percent chromium and 13 percent nickel, as well as a maximum carbon content of 0.03 percent. It is used to weld Type 309 stainless steel, to join carbon and low-alloy steels to austenitic stainless steels, and for cladding.

The electrodes are available in 0.045-in., 1/16-in., and 3/32-in. diameters.
