Large-diameter stud heads help reduce stress on panels
- May 24, 2012
- Product Release
- Assembly and Joining
PEM® self-clinching studs from PennEngineering® are designed with large-diameter heads for heavy-duty attachment applications. The enlarged, nonflush stud head distributes axial tightening force over a large area to reduce compressive stress on the panel and provide full thread strength.
The RoHS-compliant studs come in four styles. HFE™ steel studs install permanently in steel or aluminum sheets as thin as 0.040 in. with hardness of HRB 85 or less and HB 165 or less. Thread sizes are from #10-32 through 5/16-18 and M5 through M8. Type HFH™ steel studs for high-strength applications meet Grade 5/property class 9.8 tensile requirements and install permanently in steel or aluminum sheets as thin as 0.050 in. with hardness of HRB 85 or less and HB 165 or less. Thread sizes are from #10-32 through 3/8-16 and M5 through M10. Standard stud lengths for both types are available up to 2 in.
HFG8™ (unified) and HF109™ (metric) high-tensile-strength carbon alloy steel studs are heat-treated to achieve greater hardness and tensile strength up to Grade 8/property class 10.9, meeting 1,040 MPa minimum. They install permanently in steel or HSLA steel sheets as thin as 0.040 in. with hardness of HRB 89 or less and HB 180 or less. Thread sizes for HFG8 studs are from #10-32 through 5/16-18 and from M5 through M8 for HF109 versions. Standard stud lengths are available up to 1 in.
