One-piece captive screw allows for quick attachment, reduces need for loose fasteners

PennEngineering®'s PEM® spinning clinch bolt for thin metal panels now comes in a one-piece captive screw style. Its controlled clinching action during installation permanently captivates the screw while allowing it to spin freely in the sheet. This allows for quick attachment of mating hardware with reduced need for loose fasteners such as screws, retaining clips, or washers.
The product line includes patented Type SCB™ fasteners with an unthreaded neck for axial float and Type SCBJ™ hardware with a jacking feature. Both can permanently captivate into aluminum or steel sheets 0.040 in. or thicker and can be specified for close centerline-to-edge applications. Their application potential expands when paired with the company's Type N10 receptacle nuts or Type RAS™ R'ANGLE® right-angle fasteners.
The fasteners install by pressing them into a properly sized hole. The applied squeezing force to the top of the screw head and the underside of the sheet material forces the shoulder of the screw into the sheet, displaces sheet material, and causes it to fill the void under the head and shoulder of the screw. This permanently captivates the fastener in the panel.
The spinning clinch bolts are available in various lengths and thread sizes from #4-40 through #6-32 and M3 through M4.
