Compact robots designed for spot welding applications

The new high-speed MS165 and MS210 spot welding robots from Yaskawa Motoman are 20 percent faster overall than previous ES-series robots, the manufacturer reports. The use of a gas spring and Sigma-5 motor technology results in a lighter weight and a reduced-profile design to allow higher robot density around a car body or a smaller workcell for Tier 1 applications.

The servo gun cables and air and water lines are routed through the robot's base and upper arm to the wrist. The streamlined design allows the robots to reach into confined spaces.

The wrist working range has been expanded to up to 17 percent. Back-integrated control for spot guns with servomotor drives helps improve weld quality, the company reports.

The 6-axis robots feature increased payloads of 363.8 and 463 lbs., respectively. Both models have a 106.4-in. reach with a repeatability of ±0.008 in.

The DX200 controller features patented multiple robot control technology to handle multiple tasks and control up to eight robots (72 axes), I/O devices, and communication protocols.
