Stainless steel electrodes designed for industrial welding applications

Select-Arc Inc. has introduced two gas-shielded, flux-cored, austenitic stainless steel electrodes designed for use in industrial welding applications.
SelectAlloy 307-AP is composed of nominal weld metal of 19 percent chromium, 10 percent nickel, 4 percent manganese, 1 percent molybdenum, and a carbon content of 0.08 percent. The relatively high manganese content helps to reduce the chance of weld metal cracking in dissimilar-metal welding.
The electrode is suitable for joining difficult-to-weld steels, such as armor plate and hardenable steels, and for dissimilar joints, such as austenitic manganese steels to carbon steel forgings and castings.
SelectAlloy 317L-AP offers a nominal weld metal composition of 19.5 percent chromium, 13 percent nickel, 3.5 percent molybdenum, and a maximum carbon content of 0.04 percent. The higher level of molybdenum provides increased creep resistance and helps improve resistance to pitting in solutions of sulfuric acid and sulfur-bearing gases. The electrode is used for applications in the pulp and paper industry and for welding food and pharmaceutical equipment.
Both of these all-position electrodes are available in 0.035-, 0.045-, and 0.0625-in. diameters.
