Metal saws leave workable edge

Fein Power Tools Inc. has introduced three new Slugger saw models that leave a workable edge when making straight or bevel cuts up to 45 degrees on steel plate, angle, pipe, and square or round tube.

The new 7.25-in. metal hand cutting saw has a double-insulated, 1,400-W, 120-V, 12-amp, 3,800-RPM soft-start motor for providing continuous power. Its electric brake is activated when the trigger is released, eliminating blade free-spin. The blade cover provides integrated chip and spark collection. An internally powered, integrated laser guide aids cutting accuracy and eliminates the need to replace batteries. The 15-lb. unit has a vibration rating of 7.20m/s2.

The redesigned 9-in. metal hand cutting saw has a 15-amp, 1,800-W, 2,300-RPM motor with a worm gear drive. Weighing 21 lbs. and offering a 7.20m/s2 vibration rating, the saw can be used for plunge cuts. It shares the same features as the 7.25-in. saw with the addition of an onboard work light.

The upgraded 14-in., portable metal chop saw features a clamping saw table with a table-mounted vise. Its 1,800-W, 15-amp motor delivers 1,300 no-load RPM. The 54-lb. saw features a double trigger safety start and a spring-loaded split guard face, electric brake to eliminate blade free-spinning, and an integrated chip collection tray. The unit also provides a clear view of the work being performed.
