3-D laser metal printing device introduced

Fonon has unveiled the new 3D FUSION™ system for 3-D laser metal printing. This additive manufacturing technology can be used in the medical, manufacturing, defense, aerospace, and high-technology engineering and electronics sectors.

The digitally driven additive manufacturing process fuses together layer by layer of metal nanopowders with high-quality focused laser energy to form functional 3-D metal objects. The process is formed from 3-D CAD files layered every 10 to 100 microns. Fusion between the layers happens in a tightly controlled vacuum or inert gas process atmosphere, particularly necessary for titanium and some other oxygen-sensitive metals.

Once complete, the part undergoes postprocessing, including heat treatment, surface finishing, and coating, to design specifications.
