Laser scanning sensor designed for automotive, aerospace measuring applications

Perceptron has introduced the Helix® 200HDR laser scanning sensor with an adjustable power range up to the maximum permitted for a Class 3R laser. The higher power allows for the inspection of complex aerospace machined parts and assemblies, including highly reflective metallic surfaces such as machined aluminum castings.

The unit produces a thin laser line and offers high measurement resolution. According to the company, it is the only laser scanner on which the laser line quantity, density, length, and orientation characteristics are user-programmable. This eliminates the need to move the laser unit during scanning, which helps ensure accurate and repeatable measurement results.

An embedded accelerometer that determines real-time sensor orientation has been developed for robotic inspection applications in which the robot moves the sensor to discrete measuring positions from which the sensor can collect all required measuring data.
