Mini cutting head achieves nearly taper-free cutting in waterjet micromachining

OMAX® Corp. has introduced a smaller version of its Tilt-A-Jet® cutting head, designed specifically for its MicroMAX JetMachining Center. The accessory nearly quadruples the position accuracy of the nozzle, enabling the machine to achieve nearly zero taper with most materials up to 3 in. thick. The unit employs 10 degrees of tilt and is fully sealed for use in the abrasive waterjet environment.

The waterjet machine cuts micron-level parts and features from a variety of materials, including exotic metals. Suitable for prototype development and production runs, the rigid machine has a table size of 2 ft. 4 in. and an XY cutting travel of 2 ft. by 2 ft.

Position repeatability is less than 3 microns, while positioning accuracy is about 15 microns.
