Coherent expands fiber laser center in Finland

Coherent Inc. has expanded its fiber laser operation in Tampere, Finland, and designated the facility as a Center of Excellence for Fiber Lasers. The company has produced fiber lasers at this location since 2003 but now has combined stand-alone fiber laser source assembly and testing with the manufacture of fiber laser components, laser engines, and combiners.

The facility will become the source for all of the manufacturer’s HighLight fiber laser systems, comprising industrial high-power fiber lasers with output powers from 1,000 to 10,000 W and a variety of beam qualities, including single-mode, multimode, and adjustable ring mode.

The facility offers 53,000 sq. ft. of production floor space, including more than 10,000 sq. ft. of clean room devoted to fabrication of critical optical components. The location also houses an applications lab featuring the company’s fiber lasers, industrial welding heads, and related analysis tools for weld seams.
