Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence modeling tools automatically flatten 3D CAD models

New modeling technology for sheet metal applications announced by Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division enables the flattening of 3D CAD models in preparation for manufacturing. These new modeling tools also help fabricators predict material behavior and create designs for parts and assemblies that perform as required with less material.

The ability to convert 3D models into 2D makes it easier to quote jobs quickly and transition to production, the company states. Its Radan software for sheet metal production now includes a direct link to the company’s Designer direct modeling software, which makes it possible to validate models virtually for optimal production. The software predicts material behavior during bending operations, eliminating trial and error.
