Attachment converts hard hat into autodarkening welding helmet

3M™ offers the Speedglas™ 9100 QR and 100 QR welding helmets, which convert many types of industrial hard hats into autodarkening welding helmets. Using the company’s quick-release rail system, helmets clasp onto a hard hat via a releasable ratcheting mechanism.
When performing nonwelding tasks, users can detach the welding helmet or pivot the helmet to a raised, parked position. This parked position creates a low center of gravity, reducing the forces on a welder’s neck. The low profile helps allow the welder to get into small or difficult spaces when the helmet is in the raised position.
While the rail system fits many of the industry’s hard hats, the manufacturer recommends using it with the 3M H-701R hard hat, which also integrates with eyewear and earmuff protection.
