- Hydroforming
Tube hydroforming industry veteran Gary Morphy has founded Excella Technologies, Cambridge, Ont., a company he started to provide part and tool design, prototype, and production services for hydroformed and other tubular parts. Drawing on his 27 years of experience in the automotive industry, including two decades in hydroforming, Morphy brings expertise in tube fabrication, including bending, end forming, and hydroforming.
The company focuses on fluid-carrying and structural parts for agricultural, construction, commercial truck, automotive, and other applications using materials like mild steel, stainless, aluminum, and INCONEL® alloy in volumes from a few hundred to more than 100,000 per year. Prototype and production applications include exhaust, air duct, cooler inlet/outlets, small vehicle and bicycle frames, and oil and construction components. The company also targets applications such as architecture, structures, marine, aircraft, car and light truck, utility, recreational vehicle, appliances, and furniture.
During his 14 years at Vari-Form, Morphy worked as a project engineer, leading research and development and intellectual property initiatives. His industry expertise is represented by 18 published articles, contributions to a hydroforming book, more than 35 technical papers, and many conference speaking engagements. Extensive work in India has provided a broader hydroforming applications experience in a market focused on cost.
